NHS waiting lists are estimating up to 6 years for non emergency
hip surgery, 3 years for knee replacement and indefinite periods
for foot and ankle surgery depending upon where you reside.
Many patients are therefore seeking private treatment and
are often surprised to find private treatment to be more affordable
than they thought
Our aim is to deliver the most cost effective
ambulatory foot surgery to those patients who do not have
Private Medical Health Insurance (P.M.H.I). The introduction
of fixed price surgery has been highly successful in other
disciplines such as dentistry for procedures as dental implants
& cosmetic surgery. Fixed pricing has gained favour in
general surgery for procedures such as hernia repair
It has been reported that P.M.H.I for many
procedures has up to a 40% shortfall in cover (Sunday Times
2002) and an imbalance between fees for simple & complex
procedures (London Consultants Assoc. Newsletter 2002) leaving
both practitioner & patients confused.
Many patients are now electing for fixed price surgery, as
an alternative route to private surgical treatment.
Fixed pricing is where pre-operative, intra-operative
& post-operative costs are combined and a fee is quoted
without a hidden extras. It is in effect a contract.
AMBULATORY FOOT SURGERY (A.F.S)
Sometimes called "Walk In Walk Out"
surgery but is better described as DAY-CASE Surgery concerns
procedures that are performed in a single day, where the patient
is allowed to return home, then attends his/her podiatry practice
for post-operative care with the minimum interference to their
lifestyle.
A.F.S was developed in North America
by Podiatrists and gained interest in the U.K during the sixties.
Over 60% of surgical procedures on the foot can be performed
as A.F.S under local anaesthesia by injection
